Koraigad Fort trek

Image
Trekking is a very good outdoor family activity and what better time to trek than the monsoon season. So, for me, every monsoon calls for a family trek.   This time we choose a very simple and easy trek as we had heard that the views and beauty from the top of this fort were simply beautiful. Korigad fort is located at about 20 kms south-east of Lonavala (near Mumbai /Pune) and at a height of 923 metres above sea level. Lonavala today has become one of the most visited and crowded places around Mumbai especially during monsoon weekends. But the drive to this place itself is very beautiful and worth the traffic and crowd. And the drive further down towards Aamby Valley city that leads to Peth Shahapur the base village is even more beautiful and scenic. Traffic on the way to and back from Lonavala is an expected thing. So, plan for an entire day trip if visiting here. But very few people actually drive further towards the Aamby Valley city. Hence one can really enjoy this driv

Silvassa

Being on the coastal side, Mumbai Summers are very hot and humid. And who wants to leave the comforts of home AC and wander outdoors in the sun? Moreover vacationing to another hotter place at this time is even more tough decision. But I am glad that we ventured out and visited Silvassa. Silvassa is the capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, one of the Indian Union Territories. This city really surprised me and proved to exceed my expectations. It is well connected to Maharashtra and Gujarat both by road and rail networks. Earlier Silvasa was a small village. But now it is a well built town with a major industrial centre leaving its tribal culture far behind. It is still inhibited by the Warli people. The Warli tribe is famous for its unique "Warli Painting". Upon reaching Silvassa we first visited the Tribal Museum. Its an interesting place that describes the Warli art and culture very well. The Museum showcases wax models and old photos of Warli people at work. The tools

Trek to Naneghat

Image
Today it was proved that we as parents always underestimate our kids. We worry too much about them all the time and hence hesitate to let them explore things thinking it might not be safe for them. Unless we dont give them a chance, we will never know their true potential. This time we decided to Trek to Naneghat, also known as "Nanacha Angtha" (Nana’s Thumb). It is actually a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range near Junnar in Pune district of Maharashtra. Knowing this will be a longer and much tougher trek (about 2750 ft high) as compared to those we have done before, I was skeptical if the kids could climb all the way up and down. Let me tell you, I was wrong. On the contrary I was totally thrilled looking at the enthusiasum and energy my kids potrayed on this trek. As a mother, I feel super proud of them today. We left Mumbai early morning at 7am knowing that it will be a good 3 hour drive. The route we followed was Thane - Kalyan - Murbad - Saralgaon - Tokawad

Dinosaur Park - Lonavala

I have seen that most of the kids are fascinated with Dinosaurs. For instance, my daughter since she was very little had a craze for "Barney the Dinosaur". The huge gigantic purple Dinosaur and its friends. She would sing and dance with him on all his songs. Her favourite one was "I Love you, You Love Me, We're a Happy Family with a great big Hug and a Kiss from me to you wont you say You Love me too" and we would sing it everyday as a routine before bedtime. The best part was that due to her fondness every year till she was 5 Barney visited her on her Birthday to wish her and sing and dance with her (Her Mystery Friend). So, to cut the long story short, my point is although big and scary they never fail to impress the kids be it in a movie or in real. Oh! did I say real? as in real ?? How about touching them and seeing them in real life size . If this excites you then head out to Lonavala to visit the Dinosaur Park. Lonavala , is a popular hill station nea
